Beautiful gold chip basket with a clear glass twisted handle. The base glass is white.

Mica flakes (silver and gold flakes) varying in both size and density were used decoratively in glass objects. The granular flakes were gathered up by the marver and covered with another layer before the object was shaped into the desired form. The marver is a tool used in glassblowing and made of steel, brass or graphite surface and is attached to a metal or wooden table. Examples from Victorian times to the 1920s are hard to find. The color of the silver flecks varies with the lighting and the tinted glass covering the flecks.

This basket is exceptional, because it has gold flecks which is perfect for the butterscotch color. The base has a coarsely ground pontil. The over-hanging rim is beautifully ruffled.
