The artist: Alexander Fisher (unsigned)
This lovely altar was made ca. 1904—1910.
“Although working in a material demanding exhaustless patience and calling for the highest order of mechanical skill before lending itself to any sort of aesthetic expression, Mr. Fisher does not separate in his mind the early and prosaic stages from what of ultimate beauty he seeks to attain.”
T. Martin Wood
Fisher’s works can be seen at the Victoria and Albert Museum and The Leighton House.
