ITEM DESCRIPTION:  This is a pair of wonderful and interesting oil on canvas portraits by Danish artist Jorgen Roed, 1808-1888.  The male portrait is of world famous botanist Peter Lindegaard; the femal portrait is of Anna Elizabeth Ericksen.  The story of these portraits, according to the descendants of Lindegaard, is that Anna was the mistress of the King and became pregnant. To avoid a scandal, the King assked his friend Lindegaard to marry her, which he did. The King supported them in royal fashion.  The descendants who live in South Carolina told me this story and gave me a photo of the portraits in their living room. Both portraits have gold frames.  Roed is a listed artist who was known for his portraits, farm and street scenes, Italy, temples, cathedrals, flowers, fishermen, boats, animals and coastal scenes.  Please see all photos for details.
